- DRAG IN JAPAN -

Drag in Japan is a collaborative travelling installation with the artist Marc Gabriel.

It is an experiment in shaking the idea of fixed identities while exploring multiple layers of foreignness by performing transgressive gender as it intersects with the cultural transgression implied by the role of the tourist.

In April 2018 Aharonson traveled to Japan and for the duration of 16 days was documented by Gabriel- each day as a different version of a drag queen called Taso. Embracing tactics of guerrilla dragging where the process of getting into drag is performed by occupying public spaces: The men’s bathroom and the kitchen of a hostel, a bathroom on a 10th-floor office building, on the train and so on.

Residency and a showing of work in progress: in SEIUNKAN Woodland Life Experience, Nagano, Japan.
